The step daughter

And while I’m on the subject of “rampage of appreciation, I’m also feeling moved to say something about Peaches’ daughter.  I really like her.  My age falls almost exactly in the middle between Peaches and A.S.  Peaches and I filed our domestic partnership papers with the state in March, which officially makes A.S. my step daughter… which just strikes me as silly.  But it’s fun to say it sometimes.  A.S. has been so accepting of me, making me feel welcome in the family.  And I love her for that.

A.S. is pretty, with fiery red hair.  I enjoy her brain; she’s a smart one!  I appreciate anyone who reads a lot of books, and A.S. reads tons.  Her tastes are eclectic, and highly refined.  And she doesn’t just read for escape; she feels strongly about what she’s read.  She has a mind and she has an opinion and she isn’t afraid to use it.  I like that she goes her own way without regard to conventional wisdom or what anyone else may think; her path is her own and her assured success she’ll owe to no one but herself.

She has a wit that I love to be around; her wit can also have a bite that goes straight to the meat of the matter.  I love that she’s a second generation vegetarian raising a third generation vegetarian.  She cares very much for those she loves.  She cares about the environment and preserving this beautiful blue planet.  She’s filled with ideas and has the skill to clearly communicate them.

A.S. is clearly a woman of power to be taken seriously.

And I’m proud to call her family.

XO,

K
